A Milanote alternative that works offline and on iPad
Milanote is a lovely place to put a moodboard, as long as you are online and signed in. Mena is an iPad-native infinite canvas that stores everything on-device, syncs through your own iCloud, and keeps working on a plane with no account to log into.
Free to start · No account · Private iCloud sync
- Offline-first: boards, stencils, search index and scheduler all live on your device
- No account, ever — sync runs through your private CloudKit database
- Apple Pencil ink, Draw to Shape and 19 polygon shapes native to the canvas
- Unsplash search, SF Symbols, link previews and web embeds for moodboards
For the solo thinker, not the shared workspace
Mena is deliberately single-player. There is no team seat, no comment thread and no permissions model — which is also why there is no server holding your research. If collaboration is the job, keep Milanote; if private visual thinking is, this is the trade.
One canvas, more kinds of material
Drop in a PDF and read it page by page with ink on every page. Frame a region and present it full-screen. Turn a note into an FSRS-5 deck. The moodboard, the brief, the source document and the study material stay in one library.
Frequently asked questions
Does Mena work without an internet connection?
Yes. Mena is offline-first; everything is stored on-device and iCloud sync catches up when you reconnect.
Does Mena support team collaboration?
No. Mena is built for individual use, with no shared boards or accounts. That is what lets it run with no Mena server at all.
