Why We Built Mena

A short story about frustration with rigid note apps, a love of open canvases, and a small black crow who thinks visually — and why we think this is a better way to hold your ideas.

We kept running into the same wall. Our best thinking was messy, visual and connected — and every note app wanted it flat, ordered and stuffed into folders. So we built the tool we actually wanted: an open canvas that thinks the way we do.

Mena started as a simple belief: ideas are spatial. You do not remember a thought as line 47 of a document — you remember it as the thing near the sketch, next to the photo, above the question you never answered. Software should honour that instead of flattening it.

Everything in one place

So we put it all on one canvas. Notes, images, sketches, links, mind maps and flashcards — the whole toolkit for holding and growing an idea, in a single app that syncs across your devices. No stitching five tools together. No exporting between apps that do not talk.

Build the tool you wish existed. We wanted a home for messy, connected, visual thinking — so we made one.
